We are a mere whiff away from 2020 and with the dust now settling on the Christmas pudding, we all turn our attention to the complicated problem of where to spend to the last few hours of our 2019 and the first moments of the much-anticipated newest of years, 2020. Every year is the same – as soon as Boxing Day has been tucked up in its turkey-soaked bed, our nearest and dearest start the annual quiz “What Are We Doing for New Year?”. Well, fear this conundrum no more as we’ve put together a cheeky wee list of the best of what’s going on in Aberdeen this Hogmanay so you can effortlessly glide your way into 2020 like the champ you are.
Like most Scottish towns, cities and street corners, Aberdeen throws its own street party for the good of the locals and not-so-locals. This year will be no exception either with Schoolhill the venue for a night of musical shenanigans to help you welcome in the new year. There will be music from a glittering array of performers including Charlotte Holden, The 101, and Gary Mullen and The Works will be belting out Queen numbers which will no doubt include several sing-along moments for the crowd’s delectation. There is, of course, a piper on-hand to bring us all through the bells, because it’s not really Hogmanay without the pipes and a communal rendition of Auld Land Syne on the cards!
If it’s more outdoors shenanigans you’re after, then The Stonehaven Fireballs Ceremony might be the event for you. Join revellers at Stonehaven High Street where swinging balls of ACTUAL FIRE is the order of the day. This unique visual extravaganza also culminates in a compelling firework display in Stonehaven harbour. It’s sure to be a memorable way to take in the new year for all the family.
For the sophisticated Hogmanay experience, Atik is throwing a Great Gatsby Ball. Say goodbye to 2019 and enter the roaring 20’s (2020’s that is) as the special wee socialite we all aspire to be! Tickets are running out for this event, so don’t miss your chance to get Fitzgerald’ed before the year is out!
For those still out and about in the city, the Aberdeen Christmas Village Moose bar will be providing local entertainment right through until 2 am. This will be your last chance to experience the delights of the Christmas Village and what better night than on Hogmanay?!
Whatever you get up to on Hogmanay, we wish you well for the New Year and remember that we are always there to get you wherever you need to go on the night and right through 2020.
